Sam "Buster" Rogers was born to the union of Ulices "Jack" Rogers and Clara Elizabeth Rogers, in Giddings, Texas. Sam was the youngest of four children.

Growing up, Sam attended school in Giddings and graduated from Giddings High School in 1965. Sam then went to, and graduated from San Jacinto Junior College in Houston, Texas. After his graduation, Sam served his country in the United States Army for a period of four years. In Houston, Sam worked for Kroger Food Stores for many years before returning home to Giddings. He was then employed by the Texas Youth Commission where he was a guidance counselor until he retired in 2005.

Sam accepted Christ at an early age where he was a member of the St Paul Baptist Church in Giddings, Texas. He later became a member of Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church of Bastrop, Texas where he was a Deacon and a member of the choir.

Sam loved working with the youth and playing sports. When not spending time with his family and friends, Sam enjoyed fishing and gardening.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents Ulices "Jack" Rogers and Clara Elizabeth Shelby Rogers, brothers: Chester Morris Rogers and Fred Curtis Rogers, niece Debra Rogers-Thomas and Godson Carl Coleman.

On November 18th, 2014 at 5:09 pm, God stopped by St David's Medical Center in Round Rock, Texas and saw fit to carry his angel home.

Sam leaves behind many loved ones to cherish his memory: sister, Irma Jean Gates (Collis) of Killeen, TX; aunt, Gladys Rogers of Giddings, TX; nieces: Wanda Rogers, Marie Rogers of Pflugerville; TX Janice Newsome, Cynthia Rogers of Houston, TX; Valerie Coleman (Germane) of Frisco, TX; two nephews: Edward Rogers of Houston, TX and Collis "Chip" Gates (Rochelle) of Killeen, TX; cousin and best friend, Lorraine "Sister" Featherson of Austin, TX; fourteen great nieces and nephews, six great-great nieces and nephews, one great-great great nephew; Goddaughter, Keisha Bush and close friends Mack Patrick , Ted Evans and Willie Mae (Granny) Brown.
