On July 22, 1933, a beautiful baby girl was born to the union of Beatrice (Hunter) and Clarence Poole, in Houghton, La. Her Lord and Savior called her home to be with Him on October 7, 2014.

She received her formal education in the public schools in Shreveport, La. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. Gertha was always a high achiever, receiving many accolades and achievements.

Gertha accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late Rev. E. L. Griffin at Goodwill Baptist Church in Shreveport, La.
She remained a dutiful and faithful member of Goodwill Baptist Church until she met and married the love of her life, Willie Hargis Jr., who was enlisted in the United States Air Force.

After several years of traveling, Gertha and Willie relocated in Nebraska, and started their family with a bundle of joy, her amazing son, Michael DeWayne Hargis, another love of her life.

In 1969, Gertha and her family moved to Austin, Texas. She was employed by J.C. Penny Co. as a manager for many years before her retirement. In 1989, Gertha was crowned Queen of Habakkuh Court of Deborah Grand Chapter of Mt. Carmel Grand Lodge, Eastern Star. She united with Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church and was a faithful member until her health failed her. Gertha and Willie were married for 45 years.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Willie, her parents, Beatrice and Clarence Poole, her sisters, Rosemary Green and Willie Green, brother-in-law, Alberta Cooper, and nephew, Ralph Green Sr.

Sister Hargis leaves to mourn her "homegoing" and cherish her memory, one son, Michael Hargis (Rosalind) of Austin, TX; grandsons, Michael Hargis III and Damon Hicklin (Christina), one sister, Robbie Hicklin (Jim) of South Gate, Ca; nieces, Dr. Jacquelyn D. Mims, Alexis Hicklin; nephews, Gary Green Sr., Robert Green, Willie Green Sr. (Sharon); great nieces, Jasmin Green and Jessika Green; great nephews, Willie Green Jr., Gary Green Jr. and Gerrod Green, and many relatives, friends and church family.
