Think big thoughts, but relish small pleasures
L G's passions after retirement in 1998 included watching sports on TV, reading, going to the movies, doing yard work (he loved a pristine yard), and handling chef duties on the grill for family and friends. His love of sports began with his football activities at City High School in Iowa City. He also participated in track and field. He and his brother Steve ran sprints and relay races for Iowa City High in the Drake Relays (Des Moines, Iowa) for several years. He was voted Best Athlete and Most Likely to Succeed in his senior year at City High. Because of his love for sports, it was no surprise that he had a burgeoning involvement with the Huston-Tillotson University baseball team.
