On Sunday morning, April 6, 2014 at 9:09 am in her home, Maxine Dickerson departed her earthly journey. She was born July 7, 1934 in Mendoza, Texas. She was the youngest of three siblings born to Benjamin Johanna Lewis (BJ) and Lucille Kimble Lewis.

She joined Concho AME Church at a very early age in San Angelo, Texas. After the family moved, she joined Center Union Baptist Church in Creedmoor, Texas where she actively participated in the choir, the Missionary Society and Sunday School. She was an active member of the Webberville Road Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. C. R. Ealey.

She attended the Lakeview Elementary School in San Angelo, Texas and later completed Junior High School in Mendoza, Texas and attended Anderson High School in Austin, Texas. Maxine's career always consisted of working with children and the elderly. She worked as a Teacher's Aide for five years at Allen Junior High School and four years at L. L. Campbell Elementary School, eight years with children at the Mental Health and Mental Retardation Center. She then went on a regular schedule of caring for five seniors where she received much kudos for cooking, transporting and caring for them five days a week. All of this didn't tire her out because she came home cooked, cleaned and took care of her immediate family. In her love of caring for children, she started her own daycare (Maxine's Daycare) and maintained it for eight years.

She was preceded in death by her father, Benjamin Lewis; mother, Lucille Lewis; husband Manuel Dickerson; daughter, Katherine Meshaell Lewis; son, Donnie Lewis; granddaughter, Robbie Joy Dickerson; brother, Ira Lewis, sister Ladene Nelson and brother-in-law, Jewel Nelson.

She leaves to cherish her memories one daughter, Molissa Dickerson of Austin, Texas; three sons, Manuel Kevin Dickerson (Renee) of Chicago, Illinois, Benjamin Nolan Dickerson (Courtney) of Charlotte, North Carolina and Terry Allen Dickerson of Washington, D.C.; two stepsisters, Mattie Prosser and Florence McBride; two stepbrothers, Rufus Prosser and Willie Prosser; 19 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
