Barbara Hunter was born on July 16, 1947 to Matthew Hunter and Icella Jackson-Hunter in Bastrop County. Barbara was the second child of ten. She was educated in Austin public schools.

Barbara received Christ at an early age beginning at Pilgrim Rest Primitive Baptist Church. In 1963, the family was a part of the originating members of Rehoboth Primitive Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend R.H. Howard. As an adult, Barbara later became a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church where she remained until God called her home on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 7:30 p.m.

Barbara's God-given gift of a melodious voice was well put to use ministering to the masses through song. One of her favorite songs and one that she was well known for singing is "Walk Around Heaven All Day." In the mid 1970's, Barbara was one of the Jimmy Butler Gospel Singers. This group was the first local black Sunday morning program on television (aired on KTBC – now Fox 7 Local). The Jimmy Butler Singers traveled extensively all over the U.S. singing songs of praise and their individual families blended as one, all committed to the Word.

Barbara was employed by Austin State Hospital, Eastern Hills Rehabilitation Center, and she retired from the Westminster Retirement Community.

Barbara was the mother of six children and practically raised her last two siblings. She spent most of her retirement years nurturing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Rodney Penson; brothers, Matthew Hunter, Robert Hunter, Donald Hunter, Harvey Hunter and Daren Hunter.

Barbara is survived by her children Alanda Cavanaugh, John Falkquay (Angela), Ronald Falkquay (Sharon), Rodney Falkquay, Stacy Revetta, Tracy Revetta; Sisters, Rhonda Cleveland, Sharon Whitehurst (Carlton); Brothers, Lester Hunter, Patrick Hunter, Coy Dove; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, relatives and friends.
