Freddie Gene Swain was born November 3, 1940 to the late James "JD Swain" and Lillian R. Swain-Williams, the oldest of nine children, in Caldwell County, Dale, Texas. He was educated in Travis County Independent School District.

Freddie accepted Christ at an early age at the St. John Regular Missionary Baptist Church where he was an active member and served in Sunday School and the church choir. He later joined the Blacks Memorial Baptist Church under the late Rev. Alvin Patton. He continued his fellowship under the leadership of Rev. Lester Patton until his h health failed.

Freddie was gifted with his hands. He was an excellent chef and he worked with HEB Construction for many years. He was a kind, friendly and loving person. He truly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren the most, telling them his favorite jokes and showing them his Michael Jackson dance. He truly loved his only daughter (Mary) and his heart was Chasity and Critter.

Freddie was preceded in death by his parents, his soulmate, Beatrice Johns and one grandson Anthony Reed. He leaves to cherish his memories his daughter Mary Johns of Pflugerville, Texas; one granddaughter, Chasity Johns of DelValle, Texas; one grandson Christopher Reed of Austin, Texcas; nine great grandchildren Keyanna, Amber, Tyree, Waymen, Marcus, Tyrone, Anthony, Janae and Ra'Han. He also leaves five brothers Rev. James Lessly Swain (Shirley), Rev. Carl Swain (Gwendolyn) and Harlen Swain, all of Detroit, Michigan, Joel Swain and Larry Swain (Janice) both of Austin, Texas; three sisters, Lisa Swain, Lillian Louise Petway (Jesse), both of Detroit, Michigan and Cherry Swain of Hutto, Texas; three uncles and one aunt; a special cousin Bobbie Roland; two special friends, L. B. Ward and Shirley Tabsy and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
