Essie Mae "Honey" Ellis, was born March 15, 1927, to Perry and Eula Henry in Bastrop, Texas. She attended Public Schools in Bastrop, Texas, and later moving to Austin, Texas she attended the Austin Public Schools.

Essie professed Christ at an early age and united with St. Edwards Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorship of the late Reverend A. Dewitty. She later united with Mount Zion Baptist Church under the pastorship of the late Reverend S. A. Davis.

Essie met and married Willie Ed Ellis and in keeping with the marriage vow "until death do us part; they married on March 28, 1945.

She entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 4, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Willie Ed; one son, Willie Louis Ellis; three brothers, Percie Henry, John Robert, Frank Dee; six sisters, Ruth Henry, Annie Joe Houston, Richard Della Sneed, Lotta House, and Lora Mae Henry. Survivors include sons, Donald Ellis, James Ellis (Suzzy) Norwalk California, 3 daughters, Audrey Scott (John Wesley), East Palo Alto, California, Beverly Clark (Rev. Melvin) of Austin, Texas, Sandra Faye Ellis of Austin, Texas, and a host of grand-children, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and special friends.
