David Garfield Jones II was born in St. Mary's Hospital, Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was the first born of David G. and Irma P. Jones. He lived in Nashville, Tennessee and Boston, Massachusetts and Ventura County, California. His primary and secondary schooling were completed in California. David attended Tuskegee Institute for a short period and had to leave early because of illness.

David was especially proficient in soccer and track. His AYSO track team traveled to Sweden to play when he was sixteen.

David was very bright and picked up on things with hardly any effort. He liked theater and acting. He could mimic accents and body movements/mannerisms with ease. He would memorize and recite prose.

David came to Austin, Texas, with the family in 1989. He was drawn to the bright lights and excitement of the 6th street entertainment district. David honed his skills for dancing, singing and reciting his poetry and made a living getting tips for his performances. David had a carefree spirit. He was very friendly and greeted everyone loudly when he entered the room.

In 2006 David moved to Houston where he continued to practice his arts. He earned the moniker of "The Dancer" and was featured on a YouTube video. While in Houston he participated in recovery programs.

David would visit Austin during the holidays and traveled with the family to Idlewild in the summers. David's last Christmas with the family was a blessing. He was clean, sober and fun to be with. His communication with all of the family healed some wounds of the past.

David was raised in the church and attended church wherever he went, reciting scripture and singing gospel. There is no doubt that he had accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior.

David leaves behind three children: Meghan Taylor Zauzig, Ashley Taylor Zauzig and Andrew Garfield Zauzig; two brothers: Daniel Garfield Jones III and Darrell Garfield Jones; father: Dr. David Garfield Jones Sr. His beloved mother, Rev. Irma Patterson Jones passed in 2005.
