Lewis Edward Phoenix, Sr. was born on November 10, 1948 to the late Riley Phoenix, Sr. and Ethel Mae Mayberry. He confessed his faith in Christ at an early age. He attended school at Blackshear O.L. Price in Taylor, Texas.

After graduating from high school he joined the U. S. Air Force. He did his basic training at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where he met and married the love of his life Sandra K. Sherfield. Shortly after marrying he served a tour in Vietnam.
After the Air Force he became an independent truck driver where he owned and operated his own truck. In 1988, he began working for Waggoners Trucking until present where he was the Terminal Manager.

On Sunday, January 12, 2014 at 9:00 p.m. Lewis passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. He is preceded in death by his mother, father and step father Shedrack Mayberry, brother, Chester Lynn Mayberry and two sisters Pauline Piper and Joyce Johnson.

Lewis leaves to cherish his memory: A loving and devoted wife of 44 years: Sandra Kay Phoenix , Arlington, TX; One Son: Lewis E. Phoenix, Jr. (Sandra); Three Daughters: Shirley A Moore (Marcus), Ethel N. Phoenix , and Raven M. Phoenix all of Arlington, TX; One goddaughter: Antoinette Leonard, Fort Worth, TX; Four Brothers: James Mayberry (Barbara), Darrell Mayberry, Eugene Phoenix (Ora), and Riley Phoenix (Sandra); Three Sisters: Catherine Carter, Evelina Morris (Leo), and Shirley Taylor; One Uncle: Nathaniel Davis; Four grandsons, two granddaughters, three great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
