Mary Etta DeVore

Sister Mary Etta DeVore was a devoted wife and mother to many nieces and nephews. She was born to Dock and Roberta Aldridge in Bastrop County on February 8, 1927.

Mary confessed Christ and was baptized at an early age. She attended Hopewell Primitive Baptist Church before moving to Austin. She moved her membership to Pilgrim Rest Primitive Baptist Church where she remained a member until her passing on December 30, 2013.

She graduated from Anderson High School in Austin, Texas. Mary met Sgt. Manuel DeVore in Austin, Texas in 1972. They were married on March 5, 1973.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Dock and Roberta Aldridge; sisters Myrtle Ruth Aldridge, Annie Lee Lewis, Cora Willie White and Birdia Lou Jones; brothers Julius Aldridge and Lester Walter Aldridge.

She leaves to cherish her "Precious Memories" her husband of 40 years, Manuel DeVore, Jr.; stepdaughter Debra Dorsey of Baltimore, Maryland; three sisters, Lenora Crayton, Hazel Robinson and Alfredia Miller, all of Austin; one sister-in-law, Mary R. Aldridge of Los Angeles, California; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mary loved the outdoors. Her favorite pastime was fishing. She could sit on the banks of the fishing hole for hours on end. She was an avid gardener, and was the head chef at all the family reunions. Mary also loved to read and loved collecting old knick-knacks.
