Shirley Ann Maxfield was the fourth child born to Monroe (Dooley) Gibson, Jr. and Annie B. Sparks Gibbs on June 19, 1947 in Austin, Texas. Boht of her parents preceded her in death.

Shirley accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior in 1954 and joined Corinth Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of the late Reverend R. Q. Allen. She attended public schools in Austin, Texas and graduated from L. C. Anderson High School in 1965.

On November 19, 1965, Shirley united in Holy Matrimony to Altee McDade. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to San Antonio, Texas where Shirley attended Hicks Beauty School and received her Cosmetologist License. Altee and Shirley moved back to Austin where Shirley opened a beauty salon. To this union one son was born, Steven Wayne McDade who they both cherished and loved deeply. Altee preceded her in death.

For many years, Shirley worked with the Local, District and State Jr. Mission of Texas where she held official positions at each level. Years later, Shirley was named Director of Operations of the Women's Ministry Conference of Texas. She loved serving God in many ways and always shared her gifts and talents with others. She was a prolific writer of Christian games, plays, prose and poetry. Shirley joined Diakonos House of Servants Ministries under the leadership of Pastor A. J. Qunton where she remained an active member until her health failed her.

On August 30, 1986 she married Elmer D. Maxfield who preceded her in death. Shirley leaves to cherish her memory one devoted son, Steven Wayne McDade of Austin, Texas; five loving grandchildren, Shanieka Pilah Norris, Gloria Ann, Steven Wayne, Jr., Brianna Monique, and Chelsee Renee McDade, all of Austin, Texas; seven great grandchildren, Kendrick Norris, Nathan, Aaron, Eric, Ciara and Jazlyn Ortega, and Alyiah Valadez; two sisters, Ethel Johnson of Pflugerville, Texas and Laverne Collins of Austin, Texas; two special nieces Cynthia Perry of Houston, Texas and Tracey Collins of Austin, Texas; a special nephew Marcus Gibson Johnson of Pflugerville, Texas. She leaves a host of other relatives and friends to cherish her memory.
