An Angel was born ...Lucellastine Thomas Woods affectionately known as "Shange" was born to Roger W. Thomas, Sr. and Eva Morgan Thomas on August 24, 1931 in Austin Texas. She was the fourth of nine siblings who bridged memories, laughter and relationships during her life. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister and great friend to those who knew her. Shange's radiant smile and infectious laugh was proof of her fun loving and vivacious spirit. She had a special gift of comforting the hearts and souls of many.

Preparation for Life ... Lucellastine professed her belief in Christ at an early age at Ebenezer Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Jerome C. Lott. During her active affiliation with the church, she was a member of Mission II, Naomi Circle. She began her formal education at Olive Street Elementary, Kealing Jr. High, and graduated from L. C. Anderson High School in 1950. Afterwards, she continued her educational experience at Huston-Tillotson College. Often expressing fond memories of church activities and educational experiences, she instilled the same passion with her children.

Gift of Life ... She was united in marriage in 1952 to Marshall Woods, Jr. who served in the United States Army. While stationed in Washington State, they were blessed with two children Tillman Allan and Marsha G. Woods. Their family was completed with the blessing of a third child, Monica La'Belle Woods born in Austin, Texas.

Footprints of Life ... "Shange", while traveling with her husband expressed a selfless commitment to her family, chose to remain home to care for her children. Upon her return to Austin, she began a career at Child Incorporated. Afterwards, she was employed by the City of Austin at Senior Aide. She worked in many facets with the City of Austin such as, Austin Police Department and Legal Aide.
