Mr. Jasper Harris, Sr. and Mrs. Addie Mae Thomas
Harris. She attended Langston Elementary School in
Houston , Texas and graduated from Smithville High
School in Smithville, Texas. She attended Prairie View
College and Samuel Huston College.

She was a Licensed Vocational Nurse and also worked 35 years, 6 months and 7 days with the U.S. Treasury Department (I.R.S.) before retiring.

At an early age Ora was baptized and became a member of the Colorado Baptist Church in Smithville, Texas. In 1943, she joined the Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Austin, Texas where she remained a member until her death on Thursday, May 23, 2013. She served in the church's Culinary Department for over 40 years; GMZ Greeters and Ushers Department, Senior Mission Department and other church auxiliaries.

Ora was also affiliated with the City and District Ushers and faithfully attended the National Baptist Convention of America, Inc. for many years. She was very instrumental in organizing and took an active part with the Smithville High School Home Coming Celebrations serving as the treasurer for many years.

Her mother, father, two sisters, Annie Ruth Henson and Annie McQuire and brother, Johnny Harris preceded her in death.

Ora leaves a life legacy to be cherished by her adopted son, Barry J.W. Franklin (Marie) of Manor, TX; adopted grandson, Frank Ringer, Jr. of Austin, TX; her niece whom she raised as her daughter, Addie Marie Henson of Milwaukee, WI; grandchildren, Edna Ruth Hyder and Rodney Hyder of Austin, TX; sister Ruth Cephus (Jonah) of Houston, TX; two brothers, Jasper Harris, Jr. and Searcy Harris of Houston, TX; a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, cousins and friends. Her extended family includes Sue Norwood; Eva Franklin, Cathie Simpkins (Kenneth), Michael Penn (Tassy, Bria & TaNia), Ola Lewis, Cedric Lewis, Bennie Penn, Jr., Sam Wilson (Josephine) and Arthur J. Turner (Joyce) all of Austin, TX; and a host of friends.
