George Edward Baylor, also known as "Bubba"/"Papa George"/"Pops," was born June 24, 1927, in Austin (Clarksville), Texas to Carey and Eula Baylor. George professed a belief in, and a desire to follow, Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized in the Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church by the late pastor L. J. Griffin. He was a dedicated and faithful member of Sweet Home for over 80 years. He fervently served his family and church until the very end.

He attended the Old Anderson High School in Austin, Texas. After serving in the U. S. Army, he worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad until retiring in 1968. George married the love of his life, Lillian Joyce Brown, on March 3, 1948; to this union, three children were born.

George was a dear and devoted Brother, Husband, Father, Uncle, Grandfather, and Friend. George loved more than life his family, his church, his friends (he never met a stranger he didn't like), listening to old spirituals (nonstop), sitting on his porch swing, growing his azaleas, sweets (especially cookies), and traveling the country following his son Don's baseball career. His warm, wide smile and cheerful and encouraging spirit will be missed by all who knew him.

He departed this life on Friday, April 19, 2013, in Austin, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Carey Baylor, his beloved wife, Lillian, and his four brothers: William, Sr., Lewis, Isaac "Ike" & Charles "Duck" Baylor.

George leaves to cherish his memory and legacy three devoted children: Don Edward Baylor, Sr. (Becky), Douglas LaRue Baylor, Sr., of Austin and Connie Ruth Baylor-Ferguson (Kenneth) of Cedar Hill, Texas; his grandchildren: Christopher LaRue Baylor, Sr. (Andrea), Marquette Elizabeth Baylor-Bailey (Keith), Don Edward Baylor, Jr. (Michele), Douglas LaRue Baylor, Jr. (Shay White), Kameron Lillian Johnson and Shannon Hamilton; great-grandchildren: Ashleigh Hamilton, Destiny, Dominique & Dejon White, Kwinton Baylor, Christopher Baylor II, Zachary Bailey, Lillian "Lillie" Baylor, Alexis Baylor, Gavin Baylor, Braylon Baylor, Brooklyn Baylor & Nola Baylor; nieces: Cynthia Baylor, Linda Baylor, Vicky Baylor, Peggy Jackson, Wanda Baylor-Johnson, Dorothy Baylor, Marie (Toni) Powell, Kimberly Baylor, Roslyn Walker, Jocelyn Taylor, Paulette Brown, Ruth Ann Brown, Mary Cleveland, Barbara Shaw and Joan Kindred; nephews: Thomas Brown, Eugene Brown, Jr., Archie Brown, William Baylor, Jr., Robert Walker, Nero Kindred, Ronnie Baylor, Charles "Skip" Baylor, Charles Walker and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
