Smith Overton, Jr. was born on May 1, 1930 to Beulah Thompson and Smith Overton, Sr. in Elroy, Texas. Everyone called him Jr.

Jr. accepted Christ at an early age at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church where he was a devoted Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and church custodian for several years.

Jr. enjoyed the country; he really enjoyed the outdoors, nature and animals. He found joy in working on cars, trucks, lawnmowers or just anything he could fix.

He was employed at Texas Sausage and Beef Company for several years and retired from there.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Beulah and Smith Overton, Sr.; his sisters Norris Darby, Myrtle King, Lillian Dallas, and his brothers Eric, John, Chester, and Wilkie, and one great grandchild Deacon Lee Mikel Williams.

Jr. entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 4:40 p.m. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters Rosie Overton, Vickie Hughes (Joe), Jackie Gammage, Simone Smithonia Overton, and sons Jeffrey Gammage (Meeka), Talford Gammage, and Smith overton III (Elena). He has fourteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; two sisters Mrs. Alice Jean Overton and Mrs. Willie Lee Roberts; brother-in-law Paul Darby; and a very special devoted, loving friend, Ms. Georgetta Green; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
