Mable Parks Harris was born on July 7, 1921 to George and Relasie White Parks, in Manor, Texas. She was the third of six children. She attended public school in Fuchs Grove, Texas.

At an early age, Mable accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior. She was baptized by the late Rev. Will T. Brown, who was Pastor of Parks Springs and Fuchs Grove Baptist Churches. After moving with her family to Austin, she became a faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she served on the Deaconess Board and Mission #1. She remained a member until her passing.

Mable married Earnest (Zene) Harris and to this union, four children were born: Curtis, Joyce, Delores and Darryl, all of Austin.

She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother. Being a homemaker most of her married life, Mable became notorious for her cooking skills. Sunday cooking competitions between her and her sisters drew many family and friends to her home each week. She especially enjoyed sewing and quilting, but mostly gardening with her sisters. Many of these skills were passed along to several of her children, nieces and grandchildren.

Aunt Mable, as she was affectionately known, provided child care and after school care for many relatives and friends, long before they became the businesses we know today. Her nurturing and giving nature led to an extended family that stretched well into the neighborhood. Her home was never lacking of activities and often included a warm meal.

She departed this life on Sunday, February 24, 2013, surrounded by her children. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Relasie Parks; her husband of nearly 50 years, Earnest (Zene) Harris; sisters, Mattie Parks, Erma Scott, Bertha Jones Hill and her brother, Charlie Parks.

She leaves those who will forever cherish her memory, her children, Curtis (Lorene) Harris, Joyce (Sherman) Burleson, Delores (Donnie) Guillory, and Darryl (Julie) Harris, all of Austin, Texas; her sole surviving sibling, Johnnie Mae Thompson; eight grandchildren – Duane Harris, Terrence Burleson, Corey Harris, LaKeyshia Brown, Chermaine Burleson, Mylan Harris, Devon Harris and Darian Harris; ten great grandchildren; seven special nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.
