Carl Lewis, III (Shorty) was born August 7, 1941 to the late Carl Lewis, Jr. and Mary Lee Harge-Lewis in Washington County, Texas.

He received his education in the Burton Independent School District where he graduated from George Washington Carver High School. He relocated to Austin and was later united in Holy Matrimony to Mary Gantt where three children were born.

Carl confessed his love for Christ at an early age and was baptized. In Austin, Carl made the New Lincoln Missionary Baptist Church the place to serve the Lord and was an active member in the Brotherhood Ministry.

Carl worked many years with Western Southern Life Insurance Company and was well known in the community as "Mr. Lewis the Insurance Man." He continued his career being self-employed with The Harlem Cab Company with several cars on the line. Carl became an Entrepreneur in the construction business and the owner of "C. Lewis Contracting." He finally retired from ABIA as a shuttle driver. Carl was a loving and giving father, grandfather and beloved by all.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, his sons Harold and Michael Lewis, brothers: Cecil Lewis, Sr., Edgar Lewis, Sr., Essie Dean Lewis, sisters: Ruthie Mae Cunningham and Ruby Lee Lewis.

Carl Lewis (Shorty) leaves to cherish his memories the mother of his children, Mary Lewis; daughters, Serita Rangel and Yvonne Lewis. Also daughter, Veronica Lewis and son, Carlton Lewis; brothers, Ervin (Martha), Lawrence (Dorothy), Willie (Hazel), Lee Norris (Alice); sister, Johnnie Etta; sister-in-Law, Charles Etta Lewis; grand-children, Alfred "Trey" and Chase Rangel; and one great grand-child, Chasity Rene' Rangel; aunt: Cardell Walker (Artis), uncle: J.D. Lewis (Carol), and a host of relatives and friends
