Mrs. Erma Jean Pleasant Guyton was born on May 4, 1926, in Granger, Texas, to the late, Lee Scroggins and Lawrence Pleasant.

The family later moved to Coupland, Texas, where she
attended The Coupland Colored School. She was baptized at an early age, at the Pear Valley Baptist Church, Coupland, Texas.

She later married Master Sergeant, Doris Milton Guyton, Sr. While he was stationed in Germany 1954, and his family with him, he was killed while serving his country. After moving back to the United states, Mrs. Erma Guyton lived in Taylor, Texas for some years, then she relocated her family to Austin, Texas, at the corner of 14 1/2 Street and McKinley Heights, where she has lived for 57 years.

Mrs. Erma Jean Guyton, was a member of St. John Progressive Baptist Church for many years, under the leadership of the late Rev. R. L. Pearson, where she served in the Mission Society. Later, Mrs. Guyton united with the Freedom Home Baptist, under the leadership of Pastor Oscar Howard, Jr. At Freedom Home Sis. Guyton served on the Usher Board, Pastor's Aide, Mission Society, and was faithful, until her health began to fail.

She loved to go to the Conley Guerrero Center with her best friend Mrs. Ruby Howard (deceased). There they would spend hours participating in various activities. Mrs. Guyton loved doing her ceramics, to bake--often making tea cakes and peach cobblers, to sew, and to sit outside in the morning and evening and water her yard. Mrs. Guyton will be greatly missed in her neighborhood.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sister Freddie Lee Brandyburg, her two twin brothers, Horace and Rev. Hollis Pleasant, of San Diego California, one great grandson, Brieon Kindred.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her seven children: Garbie J.Henry, Algie R. Williams,(Porter) Glenn Ray Guyton (Glenda) James A. Guyton (Gladys) Milton Lee Guyton, Larry D. Guyton(Carita) Evelyn D.Dibbles; one brother, Jerry Pleasant of San Diego California; and one special niece, Ethel M. Sims. Grandchildren: Rhonda M. Williams-Sinville, Terry L. Henry, Roslyn M. Williams, Rodney F.Henry, Tabitha Guyton, Rachelle Williams-Thomas, Kevin Guyton, Kimberly Guyton, Glenn Guyton Jr., Bridgette Guyton, Monica Curtis, Danielle Henry, Erkia Baker, Larry D. Guyton Jr. Lisa Guyton. Britta King, Marvin King; great-grand children: Ashley Williams, Whittney Williams, Taylor Williams, Andrew Shaw , Kole Guyton, Brenana Guyton, Destiny Thornton, Kiana Horton, Jaedan and Javeah Simms, Jordan, Gabrielle and Terrance Guyton, A. J. and Amani Gedang. Kenadi Carter, Brooklyn and London Guyton. Great-great-grandchildren John Gregory Arizola, Joseph Aden Arizola; special godson Kenneth R. Henderson and two god-grandchildren Patrick Towney and William Speight Towney; a host of nieces and nephews and friends, her special friends Mrs. Vertie Stovall and Ms. Gladys Hollis.
