Doris Marie Pleasant Haywood was born September 7, 1919 to Mr. Robert and Mrs. Ethel Pleasant in Bastrop County, Texas.

Granny, as she was lovingly called, grew up and attended public school in Bastrop County and was baptized at an early age. She was a member of the Union Lee Baptist Church, Hopewell Primitive Baptist Church, and the Pleasant Bethany Baptist Church where she was a faithful worker and usher. In later years, she united with the Strait Gate Fellowship Baptist Church in Elgin, Texas, as a charter member, and remained faithful until her health failed. She was a member of Mission I and the Senior Usher Auxiliaries. As an usher, she was faithful and always enjoyed greeting people and new faces while on her post. She was a member of the Providence and St. John District Associations, a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary/ Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #8906 and the Eastern Star/Bright and Early Chapter Six.

Granny was married to Thomas A. Hill. To this union, one daughter was born. Preceding her in death are her parents, one son, Todd Milligan, one granddaughter, Cathy Renee Kennard, one grandson, Jesse J. Burnett IV, eight sisters, and four brothers.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted daughter, Ardalia Burnett (Jesse), five grandchildren, Debra Cyphers (Don), Morris Kennard (Rebecca), Tracy Burnett, Tisha White, and Emmanuel Burnett (Angela), of Austin; fifteen great grandchildren, five great, great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.

Granny will always be remembered for her openly candid expressions of love and stern direction by all who had the privilege of being touched by her.
