Joyce Marie Newsome was the second child born to Mack and Glorence Newsome on January 29, 1931 in Manor, Texas where she grew up and attended Public School. She attended Little Zion Baptist Church where she professed a hope in Christ. Although she had other church homes throughout her life, a piece of her heart and spirit always remained at Little Zion.

When a young woman, she moved to Los Angeles, California where she raised her two daughters to adulthood. A third child, a son, came later. Joyce instilled in all of her children an appreciation and respect for the spiritual life and Christian service. She also taught her children the value of hard work, thrift, generosity and integrity; the same values that had been handed down to her from her parents.

Joyce retired from the Capital Area Rural Transportation Services after years of meritorious service, for which she received many rewards and honors in acknowledgment of her work ethic.

In 2005, she joined Ebenezer Baptist Church where her passion and drive to serve continued as she contributed her boundless energy to several organizations within her last spiritual home.

Sister Fields is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel W. Fields, both her parents, her sisters Clarice and Dorothy and her grandson, Todd.

She is survived by her children, Kathy Fraley (wife of Tony) of Temecula, California, Brenda Yarbrough and Damon Fields, both of Austin; one sister, Mrs. Maxine Mackey of Manor, Texas; and one aunt, Mrs. Bernice Perkins of Austin.

She also leaves behind two grandchidlren, Tabatha Stewart Blaylock (wife of Shawn) and Tamara Yarbrough Edwards (wife of Brandon) both of Austin; five great grandchildren and ahost of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
