J. M. Moore was the fifth child of twelve, born to Clay and Vernia Moore on May 28, 1939.

He was raised in Garfield, Texas and attended Cottonwood, Lamar and Anderson High School.

J. M. accepted Christ at an early age. He was a member of Cottonwood Baptist Church where he sang in the Male Chorus, was President of the Brotherhood, and worked faithfully until God called him home.

J. M. worked on the Dairy farm for many years before coming to Austin. During his early years, J.M. was a DJ around town. He was employed with Tom Fairy Company as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic for over 25 years. He was also employed with Sanders Tractor for 10 years and employed with RSC Rental Equipment for 8 years until his retirement in 2009. J. M. was one of the best all around certified mechanics. If he couldn't fix it, then it couldn't be fixed.

J. M. was a loving and devoted father. His surviving children include Lawanda Tillery (Tremart) of Austin, Texas, Conoshura Cauley (Damien) of Spring, Texas, Sonya Dodson (Gary) of Austin, Texas, J. M. Moore, Jr. (Chestine) of Waco, Texas, Jimmie Lee Moore of Austin, Texas, Leonard Maxwell of Austin, Texas, Rev. Rodney Lee, Sr. (Brenda) of Luling, Texas, and Daniel Shelby, Jr. of Austin, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his mother Vernia Moore, father Clay Moore, two sisters, Etta Marie Hill and Irma Jean Moore, two brothers, Sam (Arline) Moore and Clay Moore, Jr., and one daughter, Twila Moore.

J. M. leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife of 35 years, Barbara Moore; four sisters, Gertrude Bullard, Lacy Jo Colvin, Viola Brown (Wilbert), and Kathleen Dedeaux (Brian); three brothers, Robert Moore, Frazier Moore (Alice), and Lee Moore (Patricia); 1 brother-in-law, Andrew Hill of Lockhart, Texas, 17 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; special friends, Cornelius Byrd and Deacon Larry Joiner; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
