Marie Antoinette "Nettie" Swisher Gordon moved to a better home on July 27, 2012. She was the youngest of sixteen children, born July 9, 1938 in Austin, Texas to John Jefferson Swisher and Mrs. Eva Gregg Swisher. At an early age, Mary professed her faith in Christ with David Chapel Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Rev. James E. Obey, Sr., where she was a faithful and dedicated choir member. She received her formal education from the Austin Independent School District graduating from Old L. C. Anderson High School and pursued a career in Culinary Arts.

Singing was Marie's greatest joy in life. She sang with various groups including Rosa Lee and the Alexandretts. With her sultry and velvety smooth alto voice, the gospel songstress touched the hearts of all leading old spiritual hymns such as "God Specializes", "His Yoke Is Easy" and "Going Up Yonder" to name a few. As an adult, Marie moved her membership to Rising Star Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Rev. C. William Mays, Jr. where her beautiful voice was constant untl her health began to fail.

Marie was employed for forty years as a chef starting at Crest Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and retiring in 2011 from the McCabe Center where she was affectionately known as "Mama".

Marie was preceded in death by mother, Eva Gregg Swisher; father, John Jefferson Swisher; daughter Margaret Elaine Wilford Hope; sisters Etta Mae Norris, Maggie Rhodes, Marjoire Finnen, and Mary Harris; brothers, Arthur, Charles, Ernest, Jimmie, Ladell, Lee, Matthew, Richard, and Willie Swisher.

Dignity, Elegance, courage, faith-filled and strength are all the words that describe Marie Antoinette "Nettie" Swisher Gordon. She enjoyed ife and the company of others, especially her family and friends. She will be especially remembered for her love for the Lord, her kinder spirit, great sense of fashion, flowers, and excellent cooking skills.

Marie leaves to cherish her memories, four sons, Marvin D. Wilford, Martin L. Wilford, Gary L. Gordon, Jr. (Crystal) and Gerard L. Gordon, all of Austin, Texas; two sisters, Queen Ester Horton and Ada Ignont of Oakland, California; fifteen grandchildren, God-daughter Stephanie A.
