Reba Mathis was born to proud parents Eddie and Susie Kindred Mathis on October 5, 1925 in Gonzales, Texas. She attended the Austin Public Schools.

Reba learned to cook at an early age. She became quite a good cook and supported her family with her skills.

In 1943, she married James E. Shuler, Jr. and to this union three children were born, Jamesetta, Reba Marie and Eddie Shuler (both of whom preceded her in death). She called Jamesetta, Penny, and it has been said that Jamesetta would often ask for a penny. Later in 1966, she married the late Rev. L. B. Alexander who also preceded her in death.

Mother Alexander was a Sunday School Scholar, Teacher, Passtor's Aide and served on the Heavenly Food Kitchen Committee, Senior Mission President, all at her Homegoing Church of Mt. Calvary Primitive Baptist Church. She was just an influential Christian Worker. She was also a member of the Deborah Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star, Naomi Chapter No. 20.

Mother Alexander went to her heavenly home on July 26, 2012. She was the third of eight; three sisters and three brothers preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughter Jamesetta (Rev. V. C. Holmes); one step daughter Martha Favors; one sister Marjorie Mathis, all of Austin, Texas; three granddaughters Monica Pennick, Mitzi Sylvain and Capucina Walton, all of Austin, Texas; nine great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter of San Angelo, Teas; one niece Grace F. Coleman of Ocala, Florida; and a host of other relatives and friends.
