Sister Celestine Henrietta P. Swain was born February 19, 1937 to the late Henry Patton and the late Ella Brown.

She attended Blackshear Elementary School, Kealing Middle School and later graduated from L. C. Anderson High School Class of 1957. She then enrolled in Durham Business School when she received her certificate in Clerk Typist Key Punch on December 4, 1978 while employed at Seton Medical Center in various departments. She was promoted to Utilization Review Board Department where she worked faithfully until her retirement in 1982.

At an early age, Celestine professed a hope in Christ at New Lincoln Missionary Baptist Church. She was baptized under the leadership of Rev. White. In 1970 she moved her membership to Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. E. R. Roberts. In 1978 she reunited with St. James Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor E. M. Franklin. She served as a Deacon wife and worked faithfully with Mission I and Angels at Your Service under Deacon Ray Caldwell until her health failed. She had a love for volunteering with the Youth Department and various organizations.

Celestine was united in matrimony to the late Henderson C. Swain and one child was born to this union (Baby Swain).

She was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon H. C. Swain; mother Ella Davis, father Henry Patton, two sisters, Margaret Fagan and Geraldine Davis, one brother Rogis Patton and one granddaughter Davina Williams.

Celestine leaves to cherish her memories her children Ella Williams (David), Lois Patton (Kenneth), Aber Patton (Rudy), Duncan Eric Patton (Shantaye); grandchildren David Williams (Monique), Shameka Simmons (Sellano), Reshonda Brewster, Davia Williams (Jerry), Daven Hunter, Antaris Asbury, Charles Smith, Brenee Patton (Walter), DVonte Patton; step sons Bobby L. Swain (Jeanette), Henderson C. Swain aka Mikal Abdul Mailk, Hal Collins Swain, J. C. Swain (Carla), Dana Crawford, Glen Crawford and Ronnie Crawford; step daughters, Kathy Lewis, Sandra Lee, Joyce Swain; 40 grandchildren and 51 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

She also leaves memories to one loving sister and brother-in-law Mrs. Bobbie Jo Dickerson and Mr. Nathaniel Dickerson; one niece Ms. Maude Patton; one god daughter who faithfully accompanied her to doctor visits, Kimberly Hardeman and her children Janae and Brandon. Ms. Swain also leaves to cherish memories to the special loved ones that gave such great care to her in a time of need: Sharon Davis, Shantaye Taylor, Jeanean Bishop and Kimberly Hardeman
