Ola Mae Ellis Porter was born March 26, 1921 in Giddings, Texas, Lee County to Mr. Earnest Ellis, Sr. and Mrs. Carrie Lee Hall Ellis, both of whom preceded her in death. There were twelve children born. She had eight brothers, Robert A. Ellis (deceased), Julius O. D. Ellis (deceased), Joe Nathan Ellis (deceased), Ronald Ellis (deceased), Donald Ellis, Tom Thumb Ellis (deceased), Earnest Ellis, Jr. (deceased), and Raymond Ellis (deceased); three sisters, Earnestine E. Dobbins (deceased), Mamie Ellis (deceased), and Carrie Ellis (deceased).

She married Denslow Eugene Porter (deceased) on August 5, 1972. She had previously entered into holy matrimony two times and ended the marriage with one in death and one in divorce. From these unions, there were five step-children, namely, Billie Sorrells Black, Bennie Lee Sorrells, Jenkins Sorrells III (deceased), Randy Porter (deceased), and Larry Wayne Porter.

The extent of her education was finishing high school. Soon afterwards she took the career of caregiver and continued those services until retirement.

She confessed Christ at an early age and became a staunch missionary and a minister of the gospel. Her pilgrimage started at Pilgrim Home Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend John L. Harris. From there she joined the Rosewood Avenue Baptist Church with the late Moderator G. M. Relerford as pastor. She journeyed to Emmanuel Baptist Church as a member under the guardianship of Reverend C. L. Davis. Now her journey has ended at the Greater Galilee Baptist Church with Elder Troy Smith as her leader.

Last Sunday night, on May 20, 2012 at about 11:34 PM, Ola Mae quietly slept away in the hospital at the St. David's North Austin Medical Center in Austin, Texas. Her family included nine nieces, Frankie Musgrove (deceased), Marva D. Cooper (Cookie), Carrie Underwood (deceased), Gwendolyn Sykes, and Gloria Smith, all of Austin, Texas, Birda Garrett of Round rock, Texas, Jessie Thomas Brown of North Carolina, Anette Hill of Benton Harbor, Michigan, and Debra A. Smith of Bronx, New York; one nephew, James N. Smith of Albany, New York; two great nieces, Frances Musgrove Wade of Austin, Texas and Janice Musgrove (deceased), Willie Musgrove (deceased), Carl Musgrove (deceased), and Ronnie Musgrove of Austin, Texas; seven granddaughters Evelyn Fentress and Sandra Houston of Arlington, Texas, Michelle Small and Gladys Budd of Austin, Texas, Patricia Rusk of Hutto, Texas; two grandson, Larry Wayne Porter, Jr. of Richmond, Texas and Quincy Shawn Porter of Hurst, Texas.

She leaves to mourn her passing a host of great, great and great, great, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
