Raymond L. Houston, 81 of Austin, Texas passed away peacefully on April 23, 2012. Raymond was born on June 6, 1930 in Webberville, Texas to Gus and Elee Houston.

In his early years he was employed with Frostex Frozen Food for 10 years. While working full time at Frostex, he attended trade school and received his certification in Upholstery. He started working for Mr. Foster at Foster's Upholstery shop until he branched out on his own opening Houston's Upholstery Shop which was in operation for 50 years, until his retirement in 2007. If you knew Raymond, he could not keep still, so he started doing Courier Service until his health failed him in 2009.

January 14, 1953 he enlisted in the US Army and remained until 1956, where he achieved the rank of Corporal. Basic training was in San Antonio, Texas and he later toured El Paso and Alaska.

In August 1953 he married Johnnie M. Penn and to this union six children were born.

Raymond accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of the David Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and in May 1966 he was ordained as a deacon. Later Raymond moved his membership to Mt. Zion Baptist Church in the early 90's. He was a deacon and a member of the Men's Sunday School Class which he dearly loved.

His passion was fishing, bowling and spending time with his family.

Raymond received the M. J. Anderson Award in 1987 for excellence in Business from the Rishon Lodge #1.

Raymond was preceded in death by his father, mother, three sisters and
three brothers.

Raymond is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Johnnie, daughters, Sandra Claiborne of San Pedro, CA, Marcia Ware (Howard) and Donna LeDeaux of Austin, TX; sons, Clayton Houston (Beverly), Vincent Houston (Pamela) and Darrell Houston all of Austin, TX; four sisters, Artrell Gordon of Fresno, TX, Dorothy Orebo, Bettye Houston and Doris Calloway all of Austin, TX; two brothers, Elmo Houston and Owen Houston of Austin, TX; eight granddaughters, five grandsons; two great granddaughters and one great grandson, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews other relatives and wonderful friends.
