Anderson "Andy" Howard, Sr. was born in Manchaca, Texas to Jessie and Gladys Grant Howard on November 23, 1938. He departed this life on Friday, April 20, 2012 at his residence. Anderson was preceded in death by his father and brother Nathaniel Howard.

Anderson attended schools in Manchaca, Buda and Creedmoor, and graduated from the original L. C. Anderson High School. He furthered his education at St. Edward's University. He was baptized at an early age at Barton Springs Baptist Church under Pastor T. H. Wright.

Anderson met and married Marion Alice Corzine in Austin, Texas. To this union four children were born; Roderick Lynn, Kimberlyn Renee`, Anderson, Jr., and Keisha Renette.

Anderson had many hobbies over the years, of which Drag Racing was one. He competed at Little Rivers and won many trophies. He tried his hand at boxing for a short while. He was an avid fan of live wrestling matches which he and Mary attended on a regular basis. Anderson eventually purchased a motorcycle and riding the countryside soon became another hobby. Upon his retirement from IBM, Anderson and Mary became avid RV travelers and enjoyed the companionship of the Ambassador RV Group.

Anderson's entrepreneurial venture started in 1960 when he owned and operated Howard's Gulf Service Station at 11th and Chicon. He later worked for the Texas Health Department Mosquito Eradication Program and Orkin Pest Control. His professional career continued at IBM in manufacturing and quality control where he invented an electric static discharge strip to prevent static discharge from circuit boards. He retired from IBM in 1994.

His second entrepreneurial venture, Howard's Pest Control (now "Andy" Howard's Pest Control), started while he was at IBM in the early 1970s. He established an office at home, working endless hours on evenings and weekends to build a successful business and a loyal customer base. Anderson wanted to establish financial independence as well as instill the values of entrepreneurship and hard work in his children. All of his children began working for him at a young age, usually helping him on Saturdays. "Andy" Howard's Pest Control is Austin's oldest and largest Black-owned pest control company.

He joined the Church of the New Testament and immediately started helping out wherever he could. His passion soon became cooking and providing hot lunches for the needy. Anderson took pride in helping others, especially the homeless, providing and coordinating temporary employment whenever possible.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his mother, Gladys Howard; his wife of 49 ½ years, Marion; two sons, Roderick "Sam" (Rene`) Howard and Anderson "Vassar" Howard, Jr.; two daughters, Kimberlyn Renee` Howard and Keisha Howard; four brothers, James (Grace), David (Leah), Tommy and Harold (Lisa); four sisters, Ola Mae, Marie (James), Jeannie and Lois; two aunts, Lillie Grant and Lola Flemming; ten grandchildren, Tasha (Cedrick), Brittany, Joshua, Isaiah, Jalen, Myles, Ashley, Daria, Trent and Albert; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
