Mildred Eason Griffin was born December 25, 1940 in Austin, Texas. She was the sixth child born of seven to Susan Eason Perkins and James Perkins. She was baptized in Austin and attended school in Austin.

In 1955, Mildred was united to Frank Washington and to this union one child was born and two died in infancy. She was later united in marriage to Joseph Griffin in 1965 and to this union two children were born.

She loved bowling, gardening, and decorating. She was the first black woman to drive for Austin Transit city bus. She was also the woman who saved the Booker T. Washington Projects in 1986. She was a very caring woman who was loved by many.

Mrs. Griffin was called home on March 3, 2012 to join her husband, son Tommy Joseph Alexander Griffin, Jr., mother and father Susan Eason Perkins and James Perkins, grandmother and grandfather, Nella Perkins and Po Si Perkins, brothers and sisters Floyd, Bubba, Ruth, Jay, Lorraine, and Jessie.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Sharon Washington and daughter-in-law Ilka Boyce, Pamela Griffin and son-in-law Kenneth Harris; grandchildren Camil Griffin Arnold, Martell Griffin, Isajerne Thomas; great grandchildren Ayanna Arnold, Braylen Burnett, Artayven Arnold; and a host of other relatives and friends.
