Waymon Otis Gratten, first child of Theodis and Myrtice Gratten was born August 7, 1950 in Amarillo, Potter County, Texas. In 1954, the family relocated to Austin, Texas. In 1962, Waymon was baptized at Ebenezer Baptist Church where he attended Sunday School, the Royal Ambassadors and where he and Cora served as ushers. Outside of the church, he was a member of the Prince Hall Grand Lodge #290.

Waymon started in the Austin AISD in 1956 at Sims Elementary School. He continued his primary education at Oak Springs and Rosewood Elementary Schools, Kealing Jr. High and L. C. Anderson High Schools which rounded out his public school education. He played varsity football at Anderson and graduated with the Class of 1969. Enrollong at Blinn Jr. College in Brenham, Texas for two semesters, he returned home to Austin and enrolled in Durham-Nixon Clay Business College where he met his sweet, loving and caring wife of 39 years Cora Jean Benford. They became proud and lovingingly supportive parents of Amber Nicole and La Toya Jeanne.

Waymon's inherited competitive spirit made him first choice team leader in neighborhood sports of baseball, dodgeball, kickball and football. He played to win! Waymon was an avid Red Skins fan. You could count on him to be in touch during the Super Bowl, teasing you about your team. Waymon was known for his humorous nature. For many years Waymon worked as a salesman at Sears, Circuit City, Dillards, Crown Furniture/Jewelry, Conn's and The Room Store. Along with sports, Waymon also loved cooking and keeping his yard pretty

Waymon was preceded in death by his fahter, mother, daughter Amber Nicole and brother Theodor (Ted). Survivors are his wife Cora, daughter La Toya, his siters and brothers Linda, Robert (Teresa), Danny, J.O. (Gloria), Barbara (Thomas), Richard (Barnetta), Garry, Doug, Judy, Teri, Debra (John), nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and neighbors.
