Willie Owens, Jr., passed away on Monday, February 6, 2012, at the age of 66. He was born on May 14, 1945 in Austin, Texas. Willie, Jr. was the son of Willie Owens, Sr. and Berline Washington Owens, who preceded him in death. In addition to his parents, one sister, Shirley E. Bunton, preceded him in death.

Willie Owens, Jr., accepted Christ in his life at an early age. He was a graduate of the original L. C. Anderson High School in Austin, Texas. Upon graduation from high school he served proudly in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Willie, Jr. began a career with the state as an assistant in the House of Representatives where he carried out his duties in a dedicated and professional manner for several years. He also was a talented sketch artist who loved to draw Western characters and other figures. Willie, Jr. was proud to share his military experiences with all who would listen. In addition, he was an avid sports fan with a special passion for baseball.

Left behind to cherish his memories are his siblings, Charles A. Owens, Sr., Beverly A. White, Thomas J. Owens I, Jan R. Brumfield, Samuel D. Owens, Sandra K. Bedford, Isaac R. Owens, Rachael F. Johnson, Jimmie M. Owens, and Jesse L. Owens. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and many relatives and friends.

We will all miss Willie, Jr.'s kind and humble spirit, as well as his knowledge, courage and strength.
