Brother Arthur Lee Riggins was born on July 13, 1928 to the parentage of Moody Riggins and Vera Lee Powell in Jonah, Texas.

He was educated in the Jonah Public Schools. Brother Arthur Riggins enlisted in the Army in 1952 and served in the Korean War in 1953-55. While serving in Korea, his unit was ambushed and under heavy fire and mortar attacks. His best friend was killed. He received an honorable discharge January 27, 1956. For his service and bravery he received several service medals: the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and the Korean Service Medal.

Brother Arthus Riggins was a kind and generaous gentle giant. He loved his family and never met a stranger. He loved making people happy performing and singing. Brother Riggins also loved playing checkers and dominos. Brother Riggins was a member of vision of Hope AME Church. He was a member of the United Most Worshipful Scottish Rite Grand Lodge, King David Lodge #333 A.F. and A.M., Temple, Texas.

Brother Arthur Riggins is preceded in death by his parents, Moody Riggins and Vera Lee Powell; his daughter, Betty Jo Johnson, and a grandson, Mungu De'Shon Simpkins.

Brother Arthus Riggins leaves to cherish his memory his son, Arthus D. Riggins, AKA Karioki; his daughter, Sharon Tarkington; two stepdaughters, Alma Steptoe and Shirley Hayes; an aunt, Gertrude Robinson; great aunt, Odessa Jackson who raised him; a cousin (sister)Jewel Stevens; grandchildren, Jaja Na Uhuru, Kamau "Gunwa" Newman, Narada Newman, Kamilah Taylor, Olaguwa and Oluyasegun Olusadele-Riggins, Ifatade Riggins, Olayinka Oluwadele-Riggins, Odadele Riggins, Sharon Thompson, James Johnson, Jr., Charleene Perkins (Elroy), Charolette Reyes (Trinny), Edward James Johnson; great grandchildren, great great grandchildren; long time childhood friend, Lewis (Bubba) Hicks, and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family and friends of Brother Arthur Riggins will miss him dearly.
