Mrs. Mamie Wicks Harvey was born on July 22, 1914 in Austin, Texas to Frank Wicks, Sr. and Bertha Wicks. Mamie accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and was baptized at Wesley Chapel at an early age. On December 22, 2011, God in his infinite wisdom and mercy called Mamie to eternal rest.

Mamie was the oldest of six children, with five of her siblings preceding her in death, Frank Wicks, Jr., Jack Wicks, Marion Wicks, Lorena Stevens, & Emma Myers. She was also preceded in death by her parents, husband, Reverend A.W. Harvey, Jr., son-in-law, Dr. Samuel E. Lindsay, and her grandson, Samuel E. Lindsay, Jr.

She worked for 25 years at Scarborough's at Sixth and Congress. After her marriage to Reverend A.W. Harvey, Jr., she left Austin and supported her husband as he pastored various A.M.E. churches throughout Texas, including churches in Fort Worth, Wichita Falls, Amarillo, San Antonio, Denton, Conroe, Smithville, Elgin and Manchaca. Mrs. Harvey returned to Austin following her husband's passing and joined Metropolitan A.M.E. Church. She belonged to the Women's Missionary Society and was a faithful member until her declining health. Also, she was an exemplary employee of the City of Austin Senior Aide Program, assigned to St. Vincent de Paul, Caritas, and other locations.

Mamie was devoted to her family and loyal to her friends; she will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by everyone who knew her.

Among those she leaves to cherish and honor her memories are her daughter, Barbara Harvey Lindsay, Mr. Lonnie Jackson, brother-in-law, cousins, Mrs. Alphaye Washington, Mrs. Gwen Lawson, Mrs. Ida Lois King, her five nieces, six nephews, ten great nieces, twelve great nephews, their spouses, and many other relatives and friends.
