Willie B. ("Boo-Tweety") Powell was born, November 26, 1944 to Richard Luther Powell, Sr. and Elizabeth Brown. He was the third son born to this union and was a preemie. His mother delighted in telling how he could fit in a shoe box when he was born. Willie attended school in the Austin Independent School District. He accepted Christ at an early age and as a youth, attended Grant Chapel. During his teen years, he joined Greater Mt. Zion under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Washington. It was during those turbulent teen years that he acknowledged his call to the ministry. During his later teens, ill health forced him to leave this call. He did keep the fire of God's word in his heart until he heard the Master's call to come home.

He loved shining shoes and has worked in numerous Barber Shops in the Austin area. One of his goals in life was to have a shine stand in a major hotel with his name on it.

Willie B. was preceded in death by his father Richard Luther Powell, Sr. his mother, Elizabeth, step-father Arvan Washington, his oldest brother, Richard Luther Powell, Jr. and two sisters. Those left to cherish his memory are his brothers: Henry Lewis Powell (Lanier) of Chula Vista, California and Jesse (Jackie) Powell of Austin; one sister Rev. Bunnie Powell-Stark (Eugene); nieces: Diane, Lorraine and Marie of Atlanta, Georgia; his favorite niece KasSaundra Stark-Ringer (Lloyd) of Marietta, Georgia; nephews Edmond, Edrick and Erick of San Diego, California; and a host of relatives and friends.
