Richard Arlen "Cowboy" Grant was born in Austin, TX on July 9, 1932. He was the baby of three children born to James H. Grant Sr. and Mary Olean Doyle. He is preceded in death by both parents and siblings, James Jr. and Ruthie L. Jones.

He was baptized and accepted Christ as a child at Grant A.M.E. Church where he resumed membership upon retiring and returning to Austin, TX in 1995.

Cowboy attended Blackshear Elementary, Kealing Jr. High and was a proud alumnus of Old L.C. Anderson High School where he played football and fostered a life- long love of drawing, painting and wood-working.

He left Austin to see the world and pursue a career in the United States Navy during the Korean War and Naval Reserves for 8 years. While on furlough Cowboy was united in holy matrimony with his childhood sweetheart, Jeanie Edmondson of Austin, TX on April 24, 1954. Upon honorable completion of military service Richard and Jeanie relocated to Los Angeles, CA.

Cowboy worked as a Butcher and Food Inspector at Beefco Packing Plant in Vernon, CA for 34 years before retiring and moving back to Austin, TX with Jeanie to relax and reunite with all his old friends and family.

Cowboy enjoyed many passions including fishing, road trips, horse racing, western movies, blues and country music. He was a strong, prideful man who loved to dress and had just the right hat for every occasion.

Cowboy is preceded in death by his loving, devoted wife of 48 years, Jeanie Edmondson Grant and 3 daughters: Joan Marie, Jane Arlen and Balencia Lynn Grant. Left to cherish his memory are his only son, Sidney Harold Grant (Jennifer) of San Bernardino, CA; 2 daughters: April Arlene Amey (Cedric) of Corona, CA and 'Twinkle' Heather J. Cook (Russell) of Round Rock, TX. Grandchildren Giovanni Mata and Zora Isabella Cook, Omunique Devine and Epiphany Rayne Amey, Preston Richard Grant and a host of loving and dedicated family and friends.
